Nottingham is a second-tier city in the East Midlands, United Kingdom. It has a population of about 300,000. The city is located on the banks of the Trent and it is a part of Nottinghamshire. Nottingham was an important area during Roman times. The Anglo-Saxons named the settlement "Snotingaham", which means "the homestead of Snot's people".
